WLOX, NEW ORLEANS, LA – With the New Orleans Saints having missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season, all eyes will be on the players and front office as the offseason progresses.
With a 9-8 overall record at the end of the regular season, the Saints trailed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South. For more than half of the season, New Orleans was in control of their own fate. They even had an opportunity to secure the NFC South title and a postseason spot going into Week 18, but defeats by the Packers (17-9) and the Panthers (17-6) in Tampa Bay and Carolina would prevent the Saints from winning a divisional title and earning a wild-card spot.
One thing head coach Dennis Allen said he has to take a closer look at is his aging roster, as he believes that the veteran presence is helpful, but is still looking to add some youth to the table.
”I think we certainly need to still add some young pieces to our roster,” Allen said. “I think there’s a good veteran presence here. I think there’s some veteran players that can still perform at a high level.”
“I think we also need to incorporate some more youth and talent, you know, on our team, and so as you do every year, and so we’ll we’ll look at ways in which we can do that.”
Regarding Allen’s future in New Orleans, he expects to be back, but changes are sure to be expected going into the 2024 season.
Next up for the Saints is the 2024 NFL Draft. They currently hold the 14th pick in the draft, so all eyes are sure to be on the front office going into the draft and free agency.
