Luton Town Welcomes a New Signing

Tom Holmes, a defender for Reading, is scheduled to have a medical on Monday, January 15, at Luton Town, in preparation for his transfer to the Premier League team, sources have informed Football Insider.

Luton have completed a double deal with crisis club Reading for Holmes and Nelson Abbey as they attempt to boost their defensive options this month.

The 23-year-old Holmes is ready to sign with the Hatters right now, and he will spend the rest of the season on loan back to the League One team.

The beleaguered League One team Reading has accepted bids for defenders Abbey and Holmes, according to manager Ruben Selles.

Due to Reading’s financial difficulties and position in the League One relegation zone, Luton was able to intervene this month and complete a deal for the defender.

This season, the 23-year-old has only made 12 appearances in all competitions. He has also participated for the Royals Under-21 team.

After rising through the ranks, he has made 129 appearances for the Berkshire club overall, with one goal and two assists.

Before Reading was demoted from the second division at the end of the previous campaign, the majority of their appearances were in the Championship.

Holmes’s employment with the Crisis Club is guaranteed till June 2025.

In the meantime, Ruben Selles’ 20-year-old center defender Abbey has been a mainstay in the team this season, making 26 appearances in all competitions and even donning the captain’s armband on a few occasions.

He has progressed through the Reading levels and has played 31 appearances for his boyhood club in all competitions.

The current plan is for Abbey’s contract to finish at the conclusion of this season.

After Friday’s 1-1 draw away at Burnley, Luton is now ranked 18th in the Premier League standings (12 January).

The team led by Rob Edwards is just one point from safety going into their upcoming league match on January 30 against Brighton.
