Terrell Williams, the defensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Titans, will lead the American squad at the Senior Bowl.
On Wednesday, the Reese’s Senior Bowl revealed the information along with the appointment of Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as the national team’s head coach.
On Saturday, February 3, 2024, the 75th Anniversary Reese’s Senior Bowl will take place at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the University of South Alabama campus.
“Coaching in the 2024 Senior Bowl excites me much,” Williams declared in a statement. “This is a fantastic chance to introduce these collegiate guys to the world of professional football. I’m grateful to Mike Vrabel for putting me forward for this recognition. I’m excited to collaborate with coaches and other Senior Bowl staff members to make sure the players have a fantastic day.”
In the NFL Draft, the Titans are ranked seventh overall, while the Jets are ranked tenth.
The Senior Bowl has instituted a “Coach Up” style for the second year, in which coordinators and assistant coaches are assigned to higher-level positions or roles that differ from their existing ones with their respective clubs. Assistant coaches were nominated by head coaches and general managers of all non-playoff teams and Wild Card round participants. A committee made up of league office executives and General Managers Advisory Committee representatives then chose the applicants. Every one of the eighteen teams who nominated a coach was selected for this year’s match.
Former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel released a statement saying, “There is no more deserving person to be a head coach for the Senior Bowl or any level than Terrell Williams.” “We have taken note of his commitment, hard work, and service to the Titans program over the past six years. In addition to being a gifted educator and mentor, Terrell also establishes a special bond with both his players and opponents. He has had a profound effect on our team and on me personally, for which I am incredibly grateful. I can’t wait to see him succeed in the Senior Bowl as head coach.”
In addition to the head coach appointees, the following individuals were selected as coordinators for the American and National squads:
American
Offensive Coordinator – New England Patriots Wide Receivers Coach Troy Brown
Defensive Coordinator – Cleveland Browns Defensive Backs Coach Ephraim Banda
Special Teams Coordinator – New York Giants Assistant Special Teams Coach Mike Adams
National
Offensive Coordinator – New York Giants Quarterbacks Coach Shea Tierney
Defensive Coordinator – Minnesota Vikings Pass Game Coord/Defensive Backs Coach Daronte Jones
Special Teams Coordinator – New Orleans Saints Assistant Special Teams Coach Phil Galiano
“We’re excited about having two highly respected coaches like Jeff Ulbrich and Terrell Williams lead our teams here in Mobile,” Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy said in a statement. “I’ve spoken with coaches and executives from around the league about both men and they have excellent reputations as communicators and motivators. I had a chance to observe Jeff down here at the Senior Bowl two years ago when the Jets staff coached in the game, and he brought tons of juice to his defensive players so I know he’ll bring great energy to the role. I met Terrell years ago when he was the defensive line coach at Purdue and always came away impressed with how he connected with his guys at practice. Our players are going to have a great week working under these two men.”
