Following chief executive Richard Masters’ questioning by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee (CMSC) earlier tmonth, the Premier League has been asked to release the minutes of the board meeting where its “sanctionshis policy” was approved.
During the committee meeting, which happened a day after Nottingham Forest and Everton were accused of breaking financial regulations, Masters discussed the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
An independent panel already docked Everton ten points for a prior incident pertaining to the 2021–2022 season; the club is presently contesting the penalty. CMSC head Dame Caroline Dinenage has issued a letter urging the league to be more open about its rules in the wake of Masters’ appearance.
The Premier League Commission’s own report from November states that they approved a structured “sanctions policy” in a board meeting on August 10, 2023. Dinenage emphasized Masters’ remarks to the committee regarding having a “open sanctioning regime” and said they contradicted it.
