The fact that Newcastle is in a situation where players must be moved before any new acquisitions can be made is largely to blame for the Magpies’ lack of activity in January.
Eddie Howe’s team hasn’t been able to add any new players as a result, but if a sale or two can be done in the last few days of the transfer window, this may all change.
Journalist Joel Bland also claims that Everton’s Onana is a player Newcastle should want to recruit, given the Toffees’ comparable status to the St. James’ Park team.
Premier League regulations have restricted the amount of money the Merseyside club can spend this January, and Everton must sell before they can purchase.
And it means that players like Onana are now available for Newcastle at the proper price; yet, the Magpies may decide not to sell the midfield player this month due to rumours of a £60 million value.
Almost every Premier League team has finally caught up to past expenditure this winter, making this January transfer window one of the lowest on record.
As a result, a lot of business may now have to wait until the summer, and if Newcastle is unable to secure the necessary funding this month, this situation may soon arise.
Although several elite Newcastle players have been linked to moves outside of Tyneside this month, the Toon have not yet made any significant sales as the transfer season nears its end.
Howe may have to wait until the summer to finalize Onana’s transfer to Newcastle, as the player may be keen to leave Everton if the Toffees suffer another difficult season.
