While his team was making progress toward the Super Bowl, the former Texas Longhorn sustained a terrible accident.
Charles Omenihu, a great defensive lineman for the Texas Longhorns, saw his season end on Sunday, even though the Kansas City Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl.
Ultimately, during the Chiefs’ 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Omenihu tore his ACL. By doing this, he will forfeit the chance to play his old team, the San Francisco 49ers, who made it to the Super Bowl after defeating the Detroit Lions in a thrilling comeback.
For Omenihu, who was enjoying a pretty successful year of his own, this is undoubtedly a heartbreaking way to close the season. He recorded a career-high 28 total tackles during the season, along with seven sacks and two forced fumbles. He had three total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in their three postseason games, which included Sunday’s triumph over the Ravens.
Texas won’t have any active players playing in the Super Bowl due to his injury. But, former wide receiver and current head coach of the San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan will represent them.
Shanahan and the 49ers are currently thought to be the slight favorites over the Chiefs. San Francisco is favored by 1.5 points, according to ESPN, and the matchup predictor gives them a 59.4% probability to win. This year’s game is essentially a rerun of the 2020 encounter between the two clubs, in which the Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit. They emerged victorious with a score of 31–20.
