Aston Villa’s most recent offer for Morgan Rogers has been approved by Middlesbrough, and the forward should finalize his move before Thursday’s deadline.
Although the precise amount is unknown, Teesside Live is aware that Boro will be compensated with more than £10 million for Rogers. In addition, the contract contains a substantial potential sell-on percentage in favor of Boro and add-ons of £5 million. In the agreement to transfer the 21-year-old to Boro in the summer, Manchester City also included one, and they will be entitled to about 20% of the proceeds that Boro get.
Even so, the team has made a significant profit on a player who was just signed six months ago for little over £1 million. Prior to this month, Boro had declined proposals from the Premier League side, indicating that they would not sell for less than their worth.
Rogers scored a consolation goal at Chelsea on Tuesday in his final appearance for Boro. Over the weekend, Villa made a comeback with a proposal that would have given Boro £7.5 million up front, but the team held out to secure the eight-figure sum they were seeking.
Six months after he joined the team from Manchester City, they had hoped to retain the 21-year-old this month. But since then, his worth has increased by more than 10 times, and Boro is expected to turn a healthy profit—the significance of which was underscored in recently disclosed financial records.
