Vincent Kompany will eventually succeed Pep Guardiola as manager of Manchester City, in Guardiola’s opinion.
After playing for City for 11 seasons—eight of which he led as captain—Kompany was later made immortal by a statue that was installed at the Etihad Stadium in 2021.
On Wednesday night, the 37-year-old Belgian was back in Manchester as his Burnley team fell to Guardiola’s City 3-1.
On his 24th birthday, Julian Alvarez scored twice for City before Rodri made it 3-0 early in the second half.
Burnley scored a late consolation goal through Ameen Al-Dakhil.
After the match, Guardiola complimented Kompany and the way he assembled his Burnley team in an interview with BBC Sport.
Guardiola remarked, “Burnley is not an easy team to face; they never give up.” “Not because we were superior in every way or because we had complete control, but rather because of the caliber of our players, we won today.
“I believe Burnley did not receive the outcome they were due.”
