Terry Beasley, a first-round choice of the San Francisco 49ers and former great receiver for the Auburn Tigers, passed away.
He was seventy-three. There was no stated cause of death.
Auburn commented, “We’ve lost one of our all-time greats,” beside a photo of Beasley on X, the defunct Twitter platform. Three Tigers have had their jerseys retired, mine included.
Between 1969 and 1971, Beasley spent three seasons as an Auburn player, catching 141 passes for 2,507 yards and 29 touchdowns. He caught 55 receptions for 846 yards and 12 touchdowns in 1971, one of his best seasons, which helped his quarterback, Pat Sullivan, win the Heisman Trophy.
He was a unanimous all-American pick that season, after earning second-team All-America honors in 1970. He was also a two-time All-SEC pick, and was a second-team All-SEC pick in 1969.
The 5-foot-11, 186 pounder played three seasons in the NFL for the 49ers before injuries forced him out of the game. He caught 38 passes for 570 yards and three touchdowns.
