Chiedozie Ogbene, a winger for Luton, gave the 31-year-old the runaround before fouling him in the box to give up a penalty in the second half.
Dan Burn had a terrible afternoon and had to swiftly shift his focus following the 4–4 tie at St. James’ Park.
Burn went to the Alan Shearer Foundation gala that evening, when the man of the hour gave him a swift dressing down.
George Caulkin recalled on Saturday night that when Burn arrived at the event, Shearer commented, “It’s unfortunate he didn’t show up at 3pm.” The all-time top scorer for Newcastle made a joke about it, and he has since revealed how number 33 of the Magpies responded.
Dan Burn’s response to Saturday night’s joke from Alan Shearer
In the most recent episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer discussed his Saturday night event. Gary Lineker questioned him about the remark he made regarding Burn.
“It sounds like you made a sly remark about Dan Burn, did you?” Lineker enquired.
“I did,” Shearer retorted. I was unable to resist it. I mentioned that Dan Burn’s presence tonight was more appreciated than his presence at 3 p.m. this afternoon. Yes, I did mention we’d all had them! “Yeah,” he answered, raising his hand. He handled it appropriately.
Shearer made a lighthearted joke, and it’s encouraging to see that Burn understood it as meant.
He knew he wasn’t at his best when he labored against Luton on Saturday. It was unfortunate to witness him go through a trying day following two really impressive games against Fulham and Aston Villa.
However, calls for Tino Livramento to begin will only grow after Burn’s performance on Saturday. The supporters are excited to see him play left-back again because they saw him flourish there earlier in the season.
Regarding Burn, he is an expert. He is resilient enough to overcome this setback. Newcastle needed a reaction away to Nottingham Forest, and he wasn’t the only player who didn’t perform well against Luton.
