The Switzerland international has been a regular for the Serie A side this season, making 20 appearances, out of which two of them were in the Coppa Italia. His last outing was against Sassuolo at the weekend.
TuttoMercatoWeb state the Italian club are ‘forced to buy’ the Nottingham Forest owned player.
That’s because the report states the conditions needed to buy him have ‘matured’, without providing any further details about it. Therefore, TMW explain that the 31-year-old is now a Bologna player and Nuno Espírito Santo’s side will earn €4m from his sale.
It’s further stated the player will sign a contract until 2026 at Bologna, worth €1.5m net per year.
Nottingham Forest signed Freuler from Atalanta in 2022 and he made 33 appearances in all competitions last season. Towards the end, he lost prominence under Nuno Espírito Santo’s predecessor, Steve Cooper.
Two months ago, Freuler revealed that “didn’t understand” why Cooper had a change of heart and that he never received an explanation from the former Nottingham Forest boss.
With Bologna reportedly forced to activate the clause, Freuler’s time with the Tricky Trees appears to have come to an end.
