The fact that some parts of Glasgow audibly gasped upon learning that the Bluebirds had signed Celtic’s Scotland international is perhaps the greatest praise that can be given to Cardiff’s deadline-day operations.
Yes, David Turnbull was by no means a lock to start for Brendan Rodgers. Though undoubtedly the best long-range shot north of the border, he nonetheless contributed significantly to a Hoops team trying to win another league title right under the nose of a rejuvenated Rangers, with seven goals in just nine Premiership starts.
Additionally, the Scotland international may be a potentially game-changing addition to Bulut’s team since Cardiff is still a contender for the play-offs. especially if he can supplement his evident skill in possession with some effectiveness off the ball.
Bulut tells Wales Online, “I think defensively, even last week he did a good job.” Turnbull made his Cardiff debut in the 1-0 victory at Watford, playing over 30 minutes off the bench.
“He was running a lot backwards and (won) a lot of balls. Maybe he has to add more things to his defensive work. But, last week, he made a lot of high intensity runs.
“(Turnbull) had three years at Celtic in a big team, the Scottish league. He is 24 and also experienced. He played many games and scored and assisted many goals. In the offensive part, he will bring us attempts to try and score or score himself.
“He can read the game and has quality with his passing accuracy and ability to keep the ball. He can make it quick and slow when we need him to be, he can do both sides. He’ll be really effective for us.”
