The Phoenix Suns have risen to sixth place in the Western Conference after winning 12 of their previous 15 games. Now that their Big 3 is healthy, the team hopes to challenge for a championship. The Suns signed David Roddy and Royce O’Neale ahead of deadline despite having few assets. They should be looking for replacements after shipping off four players in the trade.
The Suns will need to acquire free agents to cover their two open roster positions as transactions won’t be completed until the offseason. Every year, the buyout market is a hot topic. In order to become free agents and join with a contender, players accept lower salaries. Phoenix should be searching for rotation players, but since the Suns are past the first tax apron, they are unable to sign anyone who made more than the non-taxpayer mid-level exception prior to their buyout.
The Suns could use another reliable player for Frank Vogel to deploy off the bench, but they are still building. These players can end up in the Valley of Sun after being bought out.
The 6’8 forward is reportedly being waived by Brooklyn after being traded by Toronto to the Nets on deadline day in exchange for Dennis Schroder. Young was added back into the lineup in early January after being left out at the start of the season. In 15 games, he averaged 21.1 minutes, 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Kevin Durant is being used by the Suns at the five position, and Young might permit them to always play small. Based on Basketball-Reference, he has spent 96% of his minutes at center this season. The 35-year-old can rebound, guard a variety of positions, and make plays even though he does not spread the floor.
In the buyout market, the Phoenix Suns ought to be looking for role players. Though he’s not the sole choice, Thaddeus Young feels at ease coming off the bench and performing any task assigned to him.
