Titans Hire Jaguars Assistant Nick Holz as…

For the second year in a row, a rival AFC South team is hiring a Jacksonville Jaguars coach as offensive coordinator. A year after Jim Bob Cooter was poached by the Colts, the Jaguars will now be losing passing game coordinator Nick Holz to the Tennessee Titans, where he will reunite with Brian Callahan.

Holz spent the 2023 season as the Jaguars’ passing game coordinator, where he worked closely with offensive coordinator Press Taylor. It was Holz’s first season with the Jaguars, where he replaced former passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

The Jaguars had high expectations for their passing offense in 2023, but it failed to reach most marks.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw fewer touchdowns, threw more interceptions, took more sacks, and had a lower net yards per pass attempt than he did in 2022 under Taylor, Cooter and head coach Doug Pederson.

To date, the only members of the Jaguars’ 2023 offensive staff who are not set to return are Holz, running backs coach Bernie Parmalee and assistant offensive line coach Todd Washington. Washington’s contract expired, while Parmalee was fired.

“I’m not a coach. Those are questions for coach [Head Coach Doug Pederson].

I think if I look at it from a big picture, create an identity,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said last week when asked about the offensive issues in 2023.

“Who are we? Offensively, defensively, special teams, I felt we did that towards the end of last year, I’m not so sure we got to that point this year. That’s number one, you’ve got to have an identity. Who are you?”
