Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds and star forward Pat Carrigan are hopeful they won’t be left behind when the Broncos board a flight to Las Vegas, but risk being fined after footage emerged of them involved in a late-night scuffle.
Vision released on social media showed the Broncos pair wrestling with each other outside a Fortitude Valley venue in Brisbane. This masthead has confirmed the incident occurred on Sunday night after the club held its annual pre-season fan day.
A woman is heard saying “Adam, Pat, stop” as the pair grapple with each other, bystanders moving out of their way in the process.
What began as a light-hearted wrestle turned more serious, with onlookers capturing the tussle.
Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity said Reynolds was attempting to put Carrigan into a taxi when tensions flared. Fellow Broncos player Corey Oates was also filmed in the background of the video trying to split the pair up.
The club and the NRL Integrity Unit were aware of the matter. “We’re naturally disappointed with our group, Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy told this masthead on Monday night. “These guys are senior players and we expected better here at the Broncos. But they know that.
“They are good people who I can’t recall making a mistake before, and I’m confident they will all learn from it. The club contacted the NRL straight away about the incident, and we will work through the process as quickly as possible.”
Broncos fans will be hoping the NRL does not ban the pair for the historic opening game against the Sydney Roosters next month.
