Official: Tennessee coach leaving to join…

Officially, Jerry Mack is no longer with the Tennessee Volunteers; he left this morning for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mack spent the previous three seasons as Josh Heupel’s running backs coach.

There were rumors of an offer on Friday, and according to several accounts, it was finalized today.

Mack started working for Tennessee in 2021. He served as Rice’s offensive coordinator and North Carolina Central’s head coach in the past. Mack aided in the development of Dylan Sampson, Jaylen Wright, and Jabari Small at Tennessee. He also assisted in acquiring Cam Seldon and Peyton Lewis, two four-star talents.

Heupel hasn’t had many employees leave since moving to Knoxville. In 2021, Kodi Burns, the receivers coach, left for the NFL, and in 2022, Alex Golesh, the offensive coordinator, left to become the head coach at South Florida. Both positions were filled by members of the program. Will Heupel step outdoors now? That is still to be determined.

Over the next few days, expect some names to surface as potential candidates.
