Jordy Bahl may not play again cause of injury


“I sustained an injury to my ACL in game 1 of opening weekend in Puerto Vallarta, which will force me to support the Red Team differently than I had planned for the 2024 season,” wrote Bahl. I will be red shirting this year and am grateful for God’s timing and purpose. I’m looking forward to a season of development and learning from a new perspective. I appreciate my family, friends, coaches, and staff for their support. I’m really fortunate to have so many amazing and kind individuals in my life.

On February 8, the pitcher from Nebraska made her debut and injured herself when her knee gave out while planting her leg. The sports trainer guided Bahl to the dugout. It’s said that the staff was unaware of the extent of her damage until they returned to Lincoln since the Huskers were in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Bahl faced an aggressive No. 7 Washington team and gave up three runs and two hits in 2.1 innings prior to her injury. In her debut, she recorded four walks and three strikeouts. Bahl warmed up with the season but did not participate in the last three games of the challenge.

The good news for Bahl, given the circumstances, is she can redshirt for the 2024 season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Bahl helped OU to a 61-1 record and the most consecutive wins in NCAA softball history, 53 games. Bahl made 38 appearances to the circle, pitching 147.1 innings and tallied a 22-1 record. After a dominant stretch in the Women’s College World Series, Bahl was named the Most Outstanding Player over the weekend.

Over her two-year career with the Sooners, Bahl went 44-2 with a 0.99 earned-run average and totaled 397 strikeouts in 288 ⅔ innings pitched. However, she really made a statement this season. Bahl helped OU to a 61-1 record and the most consecutive wins in NCAA softball history, 53 games. Bahl made 38 appearances to the circle, pitching 147.1 innings and tallied a 22-1 record. After a dominant stretch in the Women’s College World Series, Bahl was named the Most Outstanding Player.

This season, Bahl was named a top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, along with Jayda Coleman and Tiare Jennings. Bahl was the 2022 NFCA First Team All-American and the NVCA Division I National Freshman of the Year. She was also a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 10 finalist and Co-Pitcher of the Year in the Big 12.
