Jim Harbaugh, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, made a lot of coaching hires that we really liked. Then Marc Trestman appeared. The unfortunate former head coach of the Chicago Bears had previously been exiled from the NFL for seven years after being abruptly fired from his position after going 13-19 in two seasons with the Monsters of the Midway and spending a brief time coaching the Baltimore Ravens, who are led by Jim Harbaugh’s brother John, in 2015–16.
The greatest coaching achievement of Trestman has occurred outside of the NFL football field. In the Canadian Football League, he has three Grey Cup championship titles: in 2009–10 and in 2017 while coaching the Montreal Alouettes and, after leaving the NFL, the Toronto Argonauts.
