Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has lauded Mikel Arteta’s managerial approach at Arsenal, as his team gears up to face the Gunners in the upcoming Premier League fixture at Turf Moor this weekend.
Kompany, set to confront Arteta, a former adversary from his playing days and a coach during his tenure at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola between 2016-2019, spoke highly of the Spaniard’s qualities.
“We share a common history. We occasionally keep in touch, albeit sporadically due to our busy schedules,” Kompany remarked. “Arteta’s passion and his handling of his debut season at Arsenal are commendable. Despite numerous challenges, player changes, and a youthful squad, he has progressively enhanced the team season after season.”
Reflecting on their previous encounter at the Emirates Stadium, where Burnley suffered a defeat to the Gunners, Kompany noted a shift in performances thereafter, with several positive displays
“Our performances notably improved following the Arsenal fixture. Since then, excluding the first half against Fulham, we’ve been competitive in every game,” he stated. “Now, it’s about converting those performances into results and maintaining defensive solidity.”
Ahead of Saturday’s showdown against Arsenal, Kompany stressed the importance of capitalising on scoring opportunities, acknowledging the quality of opposition posed by Premier League title contenders.
