West Ham board must think long and hard about David Moyes future
It is by no means an easy decision for the West Ham board to make on Moyes’ future as he has done a fantastic job at the club over the past few years.
While the league position is still decent, the football on offer is pretty drab and not what the owners promised when they moved the club to the London Stadium
website on Friday (16 February), the pundit said it’s easier than ever for supporters to regard managers like the Scotsman, who he believes is an “excellent coach”, as cautious, negative and outdated due to the average football fan being a lot more educated than they were 20 years ago.
He admitted that the problem with the Hammers boss’s style of play is that it looks “terrible” when his side aren’t winning, but he believes the club’s owners will have to commit to a complete overhaul of the squad by spending “serious money” if they let Moyes go or risk being dragged back into the relegation picture. But the Hammers boss has delivered success over the past few years, having won the Europa Conference League and qualified for Europe three years in a row in East London.
It’s going to be difficult for him to get many of the fans back onside, though, after the embarrassing performance in the 6-0 defeat against Arsenal on 11 February.
The big question if they do decide to move on from Moyes is who could come in and deliver as much success and how ambitious the board are willing to be moving forward.
