Former Washington tight end Josh Cuevas transferring to Alabama

Alabama landed its second player through the transfer portal Monday evening, adding former Washington tight end Josh Cuevas.

Cuevas announced his commitment to Alabama in an X post, joining safety Keon Sabb as Alabama’s two portal additions Monday.

Cuevas entered the transfer portal February 5 and has two years of college eligibility remaining. He spent the 2023 season at Washington after playing his first two seasons at Cal Poly in 2021 and 2022.

The 6-foot-3, 239-pound Cuevas played in 15 games last season for Washington, catching four passes for 164 yards — including a 31-yard touchdown in the season opener against Boise State. He also caught a 57-yard pass against Arizona.

A native of Los Angeles, Cuevas was unranked by 247 Sports out of Campbell Hall School. He was a third-team All-Big Sky selection as a redshirt freshman at Cal Poly in 2022.

The move to Alabama reunites Cuevas with former Huskies coach Kalen DeBoer, now Alabama’s coach, and former UW tight ends coach nNick Sherida, who is now Alabama’s offensive coordinator. He joins quarterback Austin Mack, center Parker Brailsford and wide receiver Germie Bernard in following DeBoer and Sheridan from Seattle.

Alabama’s tight end room already included a pair of returning seniors in CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts, although it lost third-year Amari Niblack to Texas through the portal last month. Danny Lewis and Ty Lockwood are the other two returnees on the roster, with Caleb Odom and Jay Lindsey the two incoming freshmen.
