Darko Churlinov, who was signed by Burnley on loan with a buyout option, has returned to Schalke 04, he disclosed to WAZ.
Before the Clarets acquired him for €3.5 million, he was committed to VfB Stuttgart, so he already had positive memories from a prior loan term there. He is thrilled to be back and playing.
Under Vincent Kompany at Burnley, the North Macedonia international was never able to make an impression, and he also missed a significant amount of time due to a major illness.
After putting all of that behind him, he is back on the field and scoring goals. He scored on his debut on January 26 and assisted in the victory over Wehen Wiesbaden this past weekend.
In an interview with WAZ, the Burnley loanee stated, “I feel very good” regarding his return to Schalke. Each week, it gets better. I have more and more time to play.
The forward has now started each of Schalke’s last three games as the team makes an effort to rejoin the Bundesliga, where many feel they belong.
Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be for this year as they are currently 14th in the league after 22 games, a solid 19 points behind leaders Sankt-Pauli.
Burnley will however be happy that their choice to let him go on loan is paying off, and they will be crossing their fingers that Schalke can find the funds to make the deal permanent.
The 23-year-old has only made 13 appearances since joining the Clarets, and he has not assisted or scored in any of those games.
