To be honest, given that Forest is fully aware of what appears to be in store, this revelation doesn’t feel that revolutionary.
Following the 1-1 draw between Everton and Crystal Palace last night, Carragher was talking about Forest.
Carragher now thinks that industry insiders think Forest will undoubtedly receive a point deduction this season.
He told Monday Night Football: “The big thing for me is that I think Everton will get something back, it could be two or three points maximum but there is a feeling within football in the last couple of days, people we have spoken to, that Nottingham Forest fear they are getting points taken off them for the situation they find themselves, so Everton are in the same boat as them.
“I’m not sure if it is precisely the same as them. Points are returned to you, but they might be taken away again. Right now is not a nice moment to be an Evertonian.
For now, Forest needs to concentrate on the football.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s primary goal at the moment is winning football games, and he cannot afford to let a possible point deduction stand in the way of that.
Forest moved farther away of the relegation zone on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over West Ham, but they will be wary of what may be coming next.
A reduction in points might have major consequences. At this point, Forest would drop into the relegation zone with four points or more; Carragher believes Everton will make up ground.
Forest cannot allow this matter to loom large over them. The goal is to get as far away from the bottom three as you can in the upcoming weeks, with a mostly strong squad.
