Ian Evatt so proud as they….

Pete Oliver writes that Ian Evatt lauded the perseverance of his team and the support of the away supporters as Wanderers overcame a deficit to win a crucial match at the Abbey Stadium.

The Whites won 2-1 thanks to goals from Paris Maghoma in the second half and an incredible effort from Carlos Mendes Gomes. This puts them equal on points with Derby County in the League One promotion battle.

And as his men capitalized on the first game they had on the teams now holding the automatic promotion places, Evatt was thrilled to see his players pass the most recent exam of their credentials.

“I’m so proud of these boys for their daily character and resiliency,” the Wanderers’ manager stated. “Leading a division is a very difficult and demanding position, especially considering the weight of expectations we bear,” but they never fail to find the appropriate answers.

“In the second half, the players shown amazing bravery, resiliency, and character. We handed up a bad soft goal with a significant deflection that can occasionally work against you, and we gave ourselves another mountain to climb.

We controlled the ball for long stretches of the first half, but in the closing seconds, our final pass and decision lacked a little bit of polish. However, we picked up the pace once more in the second half.

“After gaining the upper hand, we had to persevere and fight through to the end. These players consistently display incredible bravery and tenacity, and I’m very proud of them tonight.

Early in the second half, after giving up the ball and letting Sullay Kaika score a goal off a rebound from Eoin Toal, Wanderers scored twice in 12 minutes to secure a well-earned ninth victory of the season.

Wanderers forced a series of early second-half corners, and it’s possible that Maghoma’s equalizer came off a defender last before finding its way in.

However, Mendes Gomes’ goal, which he volleyed in after Josh Sheehan’s flawless ball fell over the Cambridge defense, was good enough to win any game and provide happy moments for the more than 900 traveling supporters who had traveled for the second time in two weeks after a wash-out two weeks prior.

Evatt continued, “We faced some pressure from corners and it once again demonstrates the worth and significance of set-play goals.” “And then, with Carlos’s pass and run, we just demonstrated a truly outstanding moment.” I’m happy for him. His tenure with us has been erratic due to injuries and his absence for the AFCON.

However, we assured him that he would play a significant role in our operations, and he delivered the game-winning performance. He has worked hard, patiently waited for that moment, and today he seizes it.

That applies to each of them equally. The game is primarily team-based. The boys who haven’t played yet need to be ready and prepared for that moment.

And to the fans for making the trip down once more. An enormous “thank you” to them. For us, it really does make a difference. They were once more our 12th man in the second half, and we are grateful to everyone of the fans who came out to support us tonight. They were necessary to us.
