Stoke City technical director Ricky Martin has been sacked, according to reports.
Martin joined Stoke in November 2022 with the Potters making 24 signings under him this season. However, Stoke have struggled badly in the Championship with Steven Schumacher’s side currently just three points above the bottom three.
And now the Stoke board appear to have made the decision to sack their technical director in an effort to repair some of their struggles. “Significant news from Stoke City – technical director Ricky Martin has been sacked,” the Telegraph’s John Percy said on X formerly known as Twitter. “Martin has come under scrutiny after 24 signings this season, with the club currently only 3 points above the relegation zone. Big call by the Stoke board”
Martin was linked with previous Stoke manager Alex Neil, with the pair having worked previously together at Norwich City. Joint chairman Peter Coates said earlier this season: “You’ll have seen changes on the football side and commercial side. When people leave, it’s given us an opportunity to have a significant reset and I think that was needed.
“I think it’s something to be excited about. We’ve worked hard to bring in people who we believe will be here for the long-term. I genuinely feel there’s a good feeling about the place, a buzz about the place that maybe hasn’t been there for a while.
