This is a ‘big blow’ for Cardiff

Former Cardiff City star Joe Ledley has said the Bluebirds missing out on Kieffer Moore last month was a “big blow” but admitted he is a big fan of new addition David Turnbull.

The Bluebirds limped towards the winter window and, despite making five signings right at the end of the window, Erol Bulut’s side still look disjointed and are increasingly incoherent on the pitch.

They now have just one win in their last eight games following Tuesday night’s bore draw with Blackburn Rovers, while their goalscoring record is painfully low and is further fuelling the supporters’ ire.

Cardiff’s strikers have been poor this season. Kion Etete, Yakou Meite and Famara Diedhiou have three league goals between them all season and while the sole blame cannot be laid at their door — the quality of chances they are feeding off is not up to scratch — that record is still nowhere near good enough. Diedhiou, of course, has played only five games in a City shirt

Ledley believes missing out on Wales striker Moore, who on Tuesday night netted his fourth goal in five games after sealing a loan move to Ipswich Town from Bournemouth on deadline day, was a big disappointment.

“The big blow for Cardiff was missing out on Kieffer Moore,” he said on the Sportin Wales podcast.

“A striker to set the tone from the front is what Cardiff needed. Kieffer Moore, he’s been there are done it with Cardiff, you’ve seen now that he’s gone to Ipswich, he’s got four goals, he is one of those players who change a game.

“You can go direct and he can link up with other players. For a big guy he is quick as well, so if it does go over the top he can get on the end of things and is a natural goalscorer. He’s dangerous from set plays as well.

“Missing out on Kieffer Moore is a big blow for Cardiff. It’s one of those where they need to re-group. You’ve seen the manager’s press conferences, you can’t constantly have a go at the players because there is a game in a couple of days. You just have to re-group and go again.

“Cardiff are just trying to find their style of play. At the moment it’s a bit off the cuff. Obviously Rambo [Aaron Ramsey] is missing, a couple of others missing and the new players are trying to find their feet.

“It’s been disappointing. Cardiff are in a position now where they are not looking up, they are looking behind themselves.”
