Aspirants for promotions Bolton Wanderers overcame League One underdog Cambridge United 2-1 by coming back from behind. For the Trotters, the key win in the automatic promotion campaign was attributed to Paris Maghoma and Carlos Mendes Gomes.
In the past, Bolton’s record against Cambridge away from home has not been great. They were held to a 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium the previous season, lost 1-0 in their relegation attempt, and drew 1-1 in League Two when both teams were promoted.
Indeed, Bolton’s triumph over Cambridge yesterday was their first away win in six meetings, going all the way back to May 11, 1985. Bolton’s manager, Ian Evatt, commended his team’s tenacity in remarks made following the match. With two games remaining, they are only six points behind leaders Portsmouth and are tied with Derby County for second place.
