Jordan misses Chelios’ jersey retirement ‘due to death in the family’

A death in the family led Michael Jordan to skip Sunday’s jersey retirement ceremony for Chicago Blackhawks star Chris Chelios.

Jordan was supposed to return to United Center to honor longtime friend Chelios, one month after he oddly skipped the Bulls’ Ring of Honor ceremony due to conflict with former teammate Scottie Pippen.

Since the two share a strong bond that dates back to their time as players in Chicago, the legendary basketball player had planned to see the retirement of his renowned No. 7 Blackhawks jersey this coming weekend.

However, Jordan was compelled to miss Chelios’ event, according to NBC correspondent Charlie Roumeliotis, after declaring he was currently dealing with a death in the family.

Rather of attending the occasion, the Bulls legend sent a video message to his close friend that evening explaining that he was at a golf course.
