Why (and why not) the Falcons should trade for Fields

The Atlanta Falcons’ top priority this offseason will be selecting a new quarterback for the team. One name that is frequently associated with the Falcons is Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears and a native of Georgia. However, are the Falcons willing to make a trade for the quarterback they previously passed on at the NFL Draft?

It might have been Fields’ best season in what was probably his final season in Chicago. Fields completed 61.4 percent of his throws en route to a career-high 2,562 yards of passing with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. In addition, Fields used his legs to carry for 657 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games during the previous season.

There’s a good chance that things will work out for both parties, especially when he was traded to the Falcons and had access to weapons like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.

Fields, who is only 24 years old, would surely fit in with a core group of young players who, with luck, may develop together over the course of the next ten years. Which is a huge plus when you compare it to other options like Kirk Cousins, a potential free agency.

THE CASE AGAINST:

‘Have they not previously done this? The strongest argument against the Falcons acquiring Fields might be that he is a former first-round quarterback who needs a change of scenery after failing to live up to expectations. Does that sound like you? The storyline appears to be quite similar to what the Falcons signed Marcus Mariota to before the 2022 campaign.

Despite the fact that Fields is younger now than Mariota was then and has already been given another opportunity with the Las Vegas Raiders. Howless, it would be deemed a rehash if you traded for Fields. In addition, it would mean placing a lot of trust in offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, a rookie, to maximize Fields’ potential.
