Sakamoto, 27, has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side this term and has chipped in with six goals.
Robins has provided this injury update regarding his situation, as per BBC Sport: “The main thing is he will recover. He will miss the rest of the season. I don’t want to tell everybody what it is just yet because I want to let things settle down and make sure Tats is right, as I’ve not managed to speak to him other than by text.
“He will be maybe eight to 10 weeks and that sees us to the end of the season.”
Coventry City injury latest
Sakamoto has been a hit at Coventry this season and this setback is a big blow for them. However, as Robins said, the main thing is that he recovers.
The Japan international, who has two caps under his belt for his country, penned a three-year deal last July.
He started his career with spells as a youngster at Montedio Yamagata and Cerezo Osaka before moving to Belgium on an initial loan deal in 2022 to link up with Oostende.
His switch to the Pro League was later made permanent before the Sky Blues lured him over to England.
Sakamoto has adapted well to life at the CBS Arena but now faces a spell on the sidelines. He sustained the blow to his back in his side’s 3-0 loss at home to Preston North End last Friday night.
Robins’ men bounced back from their defeat to the Lilywhites with a 5-0 win over National League South outfit Maidstone United in the FA Cup yesterday.
They are back in action on Friday with an away trip to West Brom. The Sky Blues are four points off the play-offs.
