Good news for Sunderland

After just two months and twelve games in command, Beale became the shortest permanent manager in Sunderland’s history, winning four, drawing two, and losing six. One of the six losses was a 3-0 setback to Newcastle United, their rivals, at the Stadium of Light during the FA Cup third round earlier this month.

The Black Cats have named Mike Dodds as their temporary manager through the end of the current campaign while they look for a long-term Beale replacement. Scott Parker, a former captain of Newcastle United who most recently managed Club Brugge in Belgium, is the early favorite for the position.

Parker left Brugge about a year ago after the team’s elimination from the Champions League and a dismal run of performance in the Belgian Pro League. In addition, the 43-year-old managed Fulham and AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League and Championship, helping each team advance from the lower division.
