Swanson has a history of ailments. Following surgery to address a hernia issue, he missed three months of the 2022–2023 season.
He experienced problems once more with his groin, and he hasn’t played for Portsmouth since December of last year.
He did, however, train with the first team on Wednesday morning after his recovery.
The Portsmouth manager is adamant that even if the Arsenal academy graduate’s match against Oxford United on Saturday will come too soon, he may play first-team football sooner rather than later.
“Zak is doing well; he took part in our exercise this morning. That was a perk, for sure, Mousinho told the BBC.
That was his first experience working with the starting lineup. He will need to be re-instructed gradually.
But maybe this Friday we can get him a little more involved, and then the following week we can push him even more.
“We anticipated he wouldn’t be prepared for this weekend’s match, but if we can get him back to full training as soon as possible, there’s a chance he’ll be in the squad sooner rather than later.”
Swanson has made appearances for Pompey in seven League One games so far this season, though
