Nottingham Forest to expect further points deduction – and how bad it could be

An analyst predicts that Everton and Nottingham Forest could soon lose points as they await the findings of investigations into possible financial rule violations in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest and Everton have been cautioned by a financial expert to prepare for more point deductions.

Earlier in the season, the two teams were accused of violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR). After an investigation, Everton was docked 10 points. Although the penalty was lowered to six points after an appeal, the Toffees are still in danger.

Stefan Borson, a former finance advisor to Manchester City, claims that depending on the result of Everton’s most recent appeal, both Everton and Forest should anticipate receiving an additional “two or three” points deduction.

Over the course of three seasons, clubs are permitted to lose £105 million, or £35 million each season. But since Forest was in the Championship for a portion of that time, they were only allowed to lose £61 million.

Everton’s first point deduction came from a PSR violation in the 2022–2023 season. Like Forest, the Merseyside team is currently awaiting the outcome of a second inquiry into a PSR violation in the 2022–2023 season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Borson predicts that both sides will lose six more points in light of Everton’s recent successful challenge; however, both penalties will probably be lowered upon appeal.
