Steven Schumacher, who has only won three Championship games since joining Stoke City in December, is apparently about to be fired. In an attempt to turn things around, the Potters, who are now facing Championship relegation, may now turn to a new player.
Even though Schumacher hasn’t left the team officially, Stoke’s most recent 2-1 loss to Cardiff City might be the final straw for the former Plymouth Argyle boss. Graeme Bailey claims that he is close to collapse and that anything but victory this weekend would be acceptable, since the Potters are already considering a surprise acquisition of former manager Tony Pulis. But for now, the veteran is not thinking about coming out of retirement.
Given his track record as Stoke’s manager from 2006 to 2013, when his team comfortably sat in the middle of the Premier League’s table for the most part, Pulis would have been an interesting choice.
However, Pulis’ retirement is acceptable given his age of 66 and the fact that his final duty was at Sheffield Wednesday in 2020. As a result, the Potters will need to look elsewhere for a replacement for Schumacher, which may lead to the rise of Adrian Heath.
Heath is reportedly on Stoke’s radar and may take over as manager at the Bet365 Stadium in the near future, according to Bailey for HITC. Similar to Pulis, Heath has a history with the Potters, having participated in more than 100 games for the team between 1979 and 1982. The former midfielder, who is currently 63 years old, may finally return.
Heath’s six-year tenure at MLS team Minnesota United recently came to an end, and he is now a manager. Stoke can help him navigate this career crossroad. Schumacher, sixty-three, is undoubtedly a viable choice if his team keeps faltering.
