Expert; He ‘won’t go back to Celtic’ after West Brom spell ends

Frank McAvennie, a former West Ham and Hoops striker, said in an exclusive interview with Football Insider that while Johnston is a “damn good player,” he lacks the fortitude to succeed at Parkhead.

The winger’s contract with Celtic will expire in the summer of 2025. After spending six months on loan at the Championship Baggies, he returned to Celtic and has since scored two goals in six games.

The 24-year-old, who only made three league starts for the Hoops this season before joining West Brom, has been plagued by injuries ever since making his senior debut in 2017.

Mikey Johnston, a Celtics loan player, “will leave the club permanently.”

Johnston will leave the Glasgow giants at the conclusion of current season, according to McAvennie, who also asserted that he would perform better in the Championship than in Scotland.

“He has no intention of returning to Celtic,” he said Football Insider.
