Former Ipswich Town midfielder signs with Portsmouth

Lee Evans, a former Ipswich midfielder, has signed with Portsmouth through the conclusion of the current campaign.

The 29-year-old Wales international left Portman Road at the beginning of February, making him a free agent.

Evans will assist fill the vacuum left by the midfield injuries suffered by League One leaders Pompey.

Boss John Mousinho said the club website, “He has plenty of Championship pedigree and experience of winning promotion out of this league.”

Evans rose through the ranks at Newport, winning promotion from League One with Wolves, Wigan, and Ipswich, and helped them gain entry into the Football League.

Mousinho declared: “We’re overjoyed. He is a very skilled football player who can be both physically present in the middle of the field and at ease with the ball at his feet.”

After missing four months due to injury, Chelsea loanee Tino Anjorin is nearing his return, but the Blues will be without long-term injured midfielders Alex Robertson and Joe Morrell until the end of the year. Tom Lowery is anticipated to miss many weeks due to a hamstring injury.
