Pitcher Erik Swanson of the Toronto Blue Jays has rejoined the team following a terrible event in which his four-year-old kid was struck by a car. His son’s condition is becoming better, based on his ability to return.
On Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays received excellent news: right-hand pitcher Erik Swanson is back with the organization.
The powerful reliever had taken time off from the team to care for his four-year-old kid, who was recently struck by a car in Florida. He was discharged from the pediatric ICU and was recovering, as we had reported earlier in the week.
Of course, the most important thing in all of this is Toby’s wellbeing, but from a baseball standpoint alone, it’s fantastic to have Swanson back with the team.
The 30-year-old just finished a season in which he played in 69 games and went 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA. He also played a key role in the Jays qualifying for the postseason for the second consecutive season. 75 batters were struck out by him in 66.2 innings.
Swanson has pitched for the Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners for five seasons, totaling a 3.78 ERA. Prior to the 2023 season, he was part of the transaction that transferred Teoscar Hernandez from Seattle to Toronto.
