West Bromwich Albion triumphed 2-1 at the Hawthorns after a spirited display of three points against Coventry City on Friday night.
Even though the Sky Blues had a total of 17 efforts on Alex Palmer’s goal thanks to Carlos Corberan’s Baggies, Mikey Johnston’s incredible goal for the hosts early on thankfully set West Brom up for the narrow victory.
The defence shining bright in the West Midlands has been a major plus all season long for Corberan and Co, with one defender in particular consistently putting in excellent displays after once fearing for his Baggies future not too long ago.
Cedric Kipre’s start at West Brom
In the summer of 2020, Cedric Kipre would move to West Brom from Wigan Athletic, where he had been a standout player for several Championship campaigns. After departing the Latics with 77 appearances, Kipre scored two goals from behind the goal.
Still, Kipre’s early adjustment from the Greater Manchester-based club to his new surroundings wasn’t the smoothest.
The 27-year-old center back would only play for the Baggies in three games during his first season as West Brom fought for promotion from the Premier League, and only completed 13 complete games lasting 90 minutes the following season.
Due to his unsatisfactory start to his West Brom career, Kipre was loaned out from the Hawthorns. He was really afraid that he may be permanently cut because the Athletic claimed he was “surplus to requirements.”
Ultimately, he was signed by Cardiff City on a season-long loan to prove to his disgruntled parent club that he still belonged at the Baggies.
