Bad News;Bolton star makes left field transfer to foreign club

Viv Solomon-Otabor, a former attacker for Birmingham City, has planned his next move.

The 28-year-old, who made his professional debut just under ten years ago, has already joined his tenth club. He became a member of the Chinese Super League team Cangzhou Mighty Lions as one of their approved non-Chinese players.

Cangzhou, who placed 12th out of 16 in the division the previous year, is now looking to Solomon-Otabor to help them improve. The winger, who was born in London, left Rukh Lviv and moved to China. He reportedly signed a one-year contract at the Cangzhou Stadium.

Solomon-Otabor came to St Andrew’s on a scholarship from Crystal Palace, where he began his senior year. He signed a loan agreement with Oxford City in the National League South, where he made his first team debut ten years ago. He performed well enough to win a professional contract at City. After making his first appearance in the first team during the 2015–16 season, he went on to make 25 appearances across all competitions and score one goal.

He would only make three appearances in the 2016–17 season before being loaned to Bolton Wanderers, where he would play just four games as a substitute with the Trotters until the end of the year. After that, Solomon-Otabor spent six months playing football for Blackpool, where he scored five goals in 47 games, the most he had ever played for a team.

He would return to City with a new lease on life after his stint at Blackpool, but he made only eight appearances before being loaned to League One team Portsmouth. After the 2018–19 season, it was determined that he would be given a one-year extension. However, he turned that offer down and spent one season with the Bulgarian team CSKA Sofia. After his return to the UK, he played for Wigan Athletic, St Johnstone, and FC Rukh Lviv before joining the latter team in 2022.
