Middlesbrough beggar banned from town centre after order

An order barring the beggar who has harassed customers and businesses in the town center has been issued.

Malcolm Wanless has been convicted multiple times for theft and fraud, and he has been begging around Middlesbrough for the past eight years.

A magistrate was informed that the 67-year-old frequently abuses store employees, wardens, and members of the public who decline to give him money or purchase food.

Middlesbrough Council has now been awarded a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) under the 2014 Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act, subsequent to an application heard at Teesside Magistrates’ Court.

Wanless, of Yarm Road, Stockton, was found guilty by the court of engaging in behavior that was likely to harass, alarm, or distress others.
