Picking the New Orleans Saints’ best Round 1 draft target….READ MORE

There are plenty of options for the New Orleans Saints to choose first overall in the NFL this year.

For good reason, defensive line is a common choice in mock drafts. They also gained some useful information on elite pass rushers from the Scouting Combine.

The Saints should draft EDGE Jared Verse with the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Verse is an athletic specimen, to put it plainly. Verse possesses the elite physical attributes that New Orleans has long sought in their lineman.

Don’t confuse athleticism/strength with rawness as a prospect, though. Verse has legit, polished pass rushing moves that are among the best in this draft class.

Verse’s quantifiable data and Combine testing yielded a 9.39 RAS score. His profile is being heralded by his speed and explosiveness, therefore the Saints need to strengthen their pass rush unit this offseason.

How big is the need for the Saints at EDGE?

It’s a serious weakness after the previous season. Carl Granderson was just extended and is a reliable defensive player. He’ll be around for the next few years at the very least, if not longer.

For Cameron Jordan, the year 2023 was the worst of his professional life. He doesn’t move nearly the same as he did in the past, and it seems likely that he won’t be an NFL player for very long.Verse would therefore assume a major role as a rookie and strive to get off to a fast start in his professional career.
