Ryan Fraser and Kyle Walker-Peters, both injured, are expected to return soon, according to Southampton manager Russell Martin.
Both were absent from Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Birmingham City and won’t play in Wednesday’s Championship match against Preston North End.
Walker-Peters seemed the most likely to return of the two, according to Martin.
“The Preston game may come a bit too early for him but we’re hopeful to have him for the weekend,” he stated.
The former Tottenham player was hurt in the leg during Southampton’s FA Cup loss to Liverpool on February 28 at Anfield.
Due to a knee injury he sustained during Saints’ 2-1 loss to Millwall on February 24, Fraser is doubtful for a longer amount of time.
Following their match against Preston on Wednesday night, Saints will visit Sunderland on March 9 and won’t play again until March 29. Their original match against Leicester has been rescheduled for March 29 due to the international break and the Foxes FA Cup involvement.
Martin stated that the time off between games will facilitate wounded players’ comebacks to the field.
“With the Leicester game being delayed it suits him (Fraser),” Martin stated.
“He’ll miss one games less and we’re hopeful he’ll be back for the Middlesbrough game,” he stated.
