The Whites’ Saturday draw against Huddersfield Town knocked them out of the top two as Ipswich Town continued their winning streak. Stoke City presented an opportunity for the team to get back on track.
After a steep decline this season, Steven Schumacher’s team is now in one of the three relegation slots; yet, they proved at Elland Road that they are far from finished.
With their superb midfield play both when they were out of possession and while trying to work the ball towards their dangerous wingers, the Potters were undoubtedly one of the better teams to visit Elland Road this season.
After tense early exchanges, Leeds took the lead with complete dominance in the first half, although the opposition continued to have opportunities.
Ben Pearson, a midfielder, entered the game after Schumacher’s substitutions, and what happened next was not surprising at all. Pearson was booked for kicking the ball at goal scorer Dan James, who had already been on the ground due to Pearson’s foul, and this sparked a furious argument with Joe Rodon.
Not satisfied to only kick the ball at the injured James, Pearson received a second yellow card for taking the Leeds winger off the ball as Ethan Ampadu broke forward. A couple Whites players also wished Pearson well. Pearson was sent out.
