Some may have been worried that Cardiff City would need more than the customary safety line of fifty points to remain up after a Tuesday night that saw positive results for several of the struggling teams.
I wasn’t too concerned about it because we knew that we needed to win today in order to go to fifty points, and we did just that with a classic second half performance of 23/24, winning 1-0 against Huddersfield to win at Cardiff City Stadium for the second time in a row.
Therefore, Huddersfield is still one of three teams with thirty-eight points; the only club behind them is Rotherham, whose relegation may very likely be confirmed before March is out. The seven teams above Rotherham are separated by just two points, which makes the bottom of the table look really crazy. However, since we are now ten points ahead of Plymouth, Blackburn, and Millwall at the top of that mini-league, I’d say we’re safe. In fact, if we win against second-place Ipswich on Saturday, play-off talk will resume, which I had assumed would never happen this season.
I am really optimistic that any talk of relegation can be put on hold because, with the exception of Birmingham, which still has a game in hand on the other seven clubs, there are only 10 games remaining for those eight teams.
