Key forward Kai Arrow’s injury status has been updated positively by the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and the Queensland State of Origin player is anticipated to return to action this season.
Arrow sustained a shoulder injury early this week, which may eventually necessitate extensive surgery.
Nonetheless, the injury can be overcome with a substantial rehabilitation program prior to a return to the field, and it now seems the Rabbitohs will choose to do that than having Arrow operate on and ending his season early.
During South Sydney’s Round 1 loss to the Manly Sea Eagles in Las Vegas, Arrow sustained the injury.
“For the next three or four weeks, he will be undergoing rehabilitation to strengthen his shoulder,” Demetriou stated.
“I have every confidence that he will return to the field for the remainder of the season.”
The Rabbitohs are unlikely to rush the forward back into action given the nature of the strengthening and rehabilitation program, but it is anticipated that Arrow could return to the field in as little as four weeks. The longer he is permitted to miss time, the better chance he will have of finishing the season.
In their first two games back on Australian soil, South Sydney plays the Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters. In Rounds 4 and 5, they play the Canterbury Bulldogs and New Zealand Warriors at home.
Round 6 will see the Sharks followed by a bye. Round 8 will see Arrow’s possible comeback on Anzac Day, away from home against the Melbourne Storm.
Tallis Duncan has parachuted into South Sydney’s forward group in the interim, while former St George Illawarra Dragon Jacob Host may also see a rise in playing time while Arrow is away.
