After helping the Cleveland Browns make it to the postseason and taking home the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award, Joe Flacco is on his way to the Indianapolis Colts.
A source familiar with the terms told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the former quarterback for the Ravens and the Colts had reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $4.5 million guaranteed. The individual spoke under the condition of anonymity because the contract is still pending. With incentives, Flacco’s contract could be worth up to $8.7 million.
When Cleveland contacted Flacco in November, the Super Bowl MVP for Baltimore, he was at home in New Jersey with his family. He tossed for over 300 yards and 13 touchdown passes in four consecutive games, going 4-1 in his five starts. Agent Joe Linta told the AP that he was hoping to stay in Cleveland to support Deshaun Watson, but the Browns had not extended an offer to him.
As Watson’s backup, the Browns are replacing Watson with Jameis Winston.
The Philadelphia Eagles extended an offer for Flacco to join the Colts, but Flacco declined. The experienced quarterback was also a target for the Saints.
With Indianapolis, he will assist in mentoring Anthony Richardson, allowing veteran backup Gardner Minshew to travel to Las Vegas.
