So sad as West Brom winger won’t play against Bristol City

Despite going back to training, West Brom winger Matt Phillips is anticipated to be sidelined this weekend, according to an Express & Star report.

West Brom will play Bristol City at home in their return to Championship action.

The 33-year-old Phillips is almost back to full strength after a recent hamstring ailment.

But according to the Express & Star’s most recent assessment on his condition, he is “likely” to miss out again against the Robins, with a return following the international break being more likely.

Having Phillips back for the end of season run-in will be a big boost for West Brom.

He gives Carlos Corberan another option to pick from and he injects experience into their ranks.

The Baggies are currently sat in the play-offs as they eye promotion to the Premier League. They won 4-1 away at Huddersfield Town last time out.

Phillips has been sidelined since December and has since had surgery on his hamstring.

The Scotland international, who has 16 caps under his belt, has been on the books at the Hawthorns since 2016 and has been a decent servant to the Midlands club.

He has made 245 appearances for the Baggies to date, 16 of which have come this term, and he has scored 31 goals.
