Chicago Bears running back leaves Bears, signs with the Browns

The Chicago Bears lose D’Onta Foreman to the Cleveland Browns, which makes their running back room a little bit smaller.

D’Onta Foreman had a brief stint with the Bears in 2023, but he was a reasonably good back. Foreman had nine appearances in which he gained four touchdowns and 425 yards on 109 carries. As a backup running back, Foreman contributed nicely to the Bears’ league-leading rushing offense.

With 2,661 rushing yards in 2023, the Ravens were the only club with more rushing yards than the Bears (2,399 yards).

Foreman’s arrival in Cleveland opens up a deep room for the Chicago Bears to use with their recently signed D’Andre Swift right away. D’Andre Swift, Travis Homer, Roschon Johnson (or RBLschon, if you’ve been following me long enough), and Khalil Herbert will constitute the Bears’ rotation.

This upcoming NFL Draft class isn’t as deep at running back as it was in last year’s class, and with the limited picks the Bears have currently, it’s likely that they’re rolling with the three into this season. Though their rushing attack might not be the same due to Justin Fields’ departure, the increase in passing should equal out that loss.

D’Onta Foreman wasn’t a lead back for the Chicago Bears, but he was certainly useful in the Bears’ rushing attack last season. Best of luck to the former Chicago Bears running back, D’Onta Foreman, for the rest of his career. Bear for life.
