The 2023 season for the New York Jets was nothing short of a circus, but general manager Joe Douglas is obviously adding quality players in the offseason. The Jets’ season ended when the second Aaron Rodgers was benched a few plays into the 2023 campaign. It really is that easy. And the team’s issues didn’t stop once Rodgers was injured.
It was soon evident that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was not and still is not the right person to call plays in the NFL, and that Aaron Rodgers’ brilliance may have played a larger role in Hackett’s play-calling success than anything else. And although it would have required an extraordinary comeback, Aaron Rodgers toyed with the idea of playing again throughout the season.
Even with his injury, Aaron Rodgers was generating headlines, and the 2023 New York Jets’ general predicament was undoubtedly unpleasant for them to deal with. GM Joe Douglas is obviously working on improving his roster, and so far, he isn’t messing around. They made significant off-season additions that addressed their top priorities:
The Jets offensive line now has three plus starters, and with Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker back, the line might even start to play well. The signing of wide receiver Mike Williams was another noteworthy move. Williams is a WR1 prospect who, with continued health, may significantly improve the team’s offensive line.
Given that the team’s offense has received the most of the focus in their offseason free agency, they will undoubtedly play another good defense in 2024. With the addition of OL and WR, the team may be able to trade down and obtain further draft capital. They also control the 10th overall pick. Although they still need to add a wide receiver and lineman, their anticipated starting lineup is currently very strong.
This club might be very strong in 2024 if Aaron Rodgers can become the player he used to be and the offensive line can hold him accountable. Joe Douglas has the potential to choose some excellent players in the draft, too. The Jets could continue to add quality players to the remainder of their squad because he has a strong track record as a general manager in the NFL Draft.
In 2024, if the New York Jets are an issue, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
