As ESPN and NFL.com revealed on Friday night, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, a starter on the Kansas City Chiefs’ championship teams the last two seasons, is going to the Tennessee Titans.
According to reports, the Chiefs will receive a third-round pick from the Titans in 2025, and in 2024, the teams will trade seventh-round picks. The agreement was reached after Sneed was given liberty to find a new team willing to trade for him by Kansas City earlier this month, when the team slapped the nonexclusive franchise tag on him.
Tennessee will offer Sneed a new contract, according to the two reports. He will ultimately get one of the highest-paying contracts for a cornerback, according to ESPN.
Following former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, who signed a three-year contract earlier this month, Sneed, 27, is expected to join the Titans in the offseason.
Sneed was selected by the Chiefs from Louisiana Tech in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. He went on to play 57 games during the regular season for Kansas City, making 54 starts.
During his tenure, he also started all 13 of the team’s postseason games, which included three Super Bowls. Sneed played in 16 games, all starts, in 2023 and finished with 78 tackles, 2 interceptions, 14 passes defensed, and 1 fumble recovery.
In the postseason, he recorded 17 tackles and three passes defensed, including one pass defensed and three tackles during Kansas City’s 25–22 victory against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl last month. Throughout his career, he has racked up 40 passes defensed, 6.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, 303 tackles, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
